About this Program

Join Jillian Ross as she discusses collaborative printmaking within the print ecosystem whilst delving into numerous large and small scale prints projects.

Ross was the Master Printer and Director of the David Krut Workshop (DKW) in Johannesburg, South Africa for the past 16 years working with over 100 celebrated South African and international artists in collaborative printmaking. Ross returned to her hometown, Saskatoon, in 2020 and established Jillian Ross Print, a collaborative print studio working primarily with South African and Canadian artists.

Ross has collaborated with William Kentridge since 2006 on major, complex and multi-part print projects, including the Triumphs and Laments Woodcuts (2016–21), The Universal Archive (2011–15), The Noses (2006–10) at David Krut Workshop; and the recently released intercontinental projects Studio Life Gravures (2020–22) and The Great Yes, The Great No (2023).  Other recent projects include a partnership with Latitudes Online and South African artists Cinthia Sifa Mulanga and Puleng Mongale; and Prairie Braids with Canadian artist, Wally Dion.

Throughout her work, particularly in the publicly accessible open-studio format of DKW at Arts on Main in Johannesburg, Ross has promoted and enhanced artist, collector, and public knowledge of printmaking through mentorship, educational workshops, and knowledge sharing.

Presented by the Art and Art History Visiting Speakers Committee with the support of the Mina Forsyth Lecture Funds.
