This artist talk with Ryan Richard will take place between 11:30am - 12:00pm, at the Gordon Snelgrove Gallery as part of the exhibition, ᑮᐦᑖᐧᒼ ᐋᐸᒋᐦᑖᐃᐧᐣ- kihtwâm âpacihtâwin.
About the Artist
Ryan A. Richard is an inter-media sculptor, a BFA Honours student at the University of Saskatchewan, and an incoming MFA in Studio Art candidate for September 2026. Raised in the former Métis community of Fox Farm (Nordale), he creates art that bridges physical materials with Indigenous cultural philosophies, such as the sîsîkwan constellation and wâhkôhtowin.
Richard’s path to academia and art was non-linear. Having overcome past homelessness and the challenges of undiagnosed dyslexia, he has profoundly re-purposed his life. Much like his sculptural practice of renewing digital, found and natural materials, he has reshaped his own trajectory from a former tradesman into an artistic and academic one. He recently served as the VP of Internal Affairs for the Métis Students of USask. His resilience and dedication have been recognized with a dozen academic honours, most notably the Peter Stoicheff Undergraduate Indigenous Leadership Award.
