About the Exhibition

Red Sharpie (1431-1996) is an essay-exhibition produced through the ongoing encoding and alteration of images in memory. Dispelling the thematic in favour of the affective, the selected artworks meander between two historical moments: the trial of Joan of Arc and the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool’s shift from a cooperative model to a publicly traded corporation. Each inclusion proposes that past images are under constant transformation, reconfiguration and instrumentalization in the present; all that seems permanent is an editorial process.

All works in Red Sharpie (1431-1996) are selected from the University of Saskatchewan Art Collection. Artists include:

Walter Bachinski, Randy Burton, Hans S. Dommasch, Geoffrey James, Augustus Kenderdine, Honor Kever, Henry Metzger, Thelma Pepper, Ruth Qaulluaryuk, Jessie Ross, Agatha Stupnikoff, Morgan Wood
