Shoes for a Journey

December 10 - December 31, 2021

Gordon Snelgrove Gallery

Students in first-year sculpture studied on-line this past term due to Covid-19 restrictions. For their final term project, they could choose to work with the concept of “shoes for a journey” – given travel restrictions due to Covid-19 over the past year, some students thought of trips they might have taken, hoped to take, or memories of places shoes had taken them in childhood or in their imaginations. Each student chose their own materials and processes for altering found shoes to convey ideas about the “place” of their travel. Working in contemporary traditions of found-object assemblage, they created the various “journeys” you see in this gallery.
