The popularity of animated GIFs has exploded thanks to the availability of free online software and the launch of social platforms willing to host not just the file format, but large file sizes.

Artists working with the medium have experienced these shifts firsthand, and they’ve responded by constructing GIFs with ever more complexity and virtuosity. :::Zip the Bright::: is an exhibition that intends to highlight these advancements, bringing together skilled artists who are part of a growing online community working with the format. Curated by artist Lorna Mills, the exhibition includes Mills, Sara Ludy, Nicolas Sassoon, and Rick Silva, and presents a smattering of work loosely connected by formalism.
